Mobility Scooters on NSW Roads

What classification does a mobility scooter come under?

Mobility Scooters are classified as ‘Motorised Wheelchairs’ which have two or more wheels and a top speed of 10km/h on level ground.

They are to be used to transport people who have difficulty or cannot walk.

Motorised Wheelchairs do not need to be registered in New South Wales.

Therefore, they do not require third party insurance, as a motorised wheelchair is generally considered to be a ‘pedestrian.’
